In-Mould Electronics combines the functional printing of electronics and the hybridisation of electronic components with traditional plastic transformation processes, such as thermoforming and injection.
IME will be employed in MADRAS project as an integration process, targeting recyclability and good moisture barriers, and ad hoc connectors; and as a fabrication process of the advanced materials proposed in the project.
The potential of IME is so huge that Eurecat has opened a plastronics pilot plant, the first of these characteristics in Europe, to scale up research in new materials and processes in the IME field, which is a very convenient facility and starting point for MADRAS project.
