TECNOPACKAGING is a Spanish SME leading the impact boosting activities in MADRAS, with the double objective of analysing potential markets to replicate the outcomes of the project and organising two workshops to showcase the project’s demonstrators to the industry.
MADRAS solutions beyond project demonstrators
MADRAS is a fully market-driven project with the potential to impact a wide range of sectors of application. During the project, the applicability of the MADRAS is being validated in two demonstration use-cases: a low-cost and thin flexible geolocation tag for logistical purposes and a fingerprint reader photosensor, to be used in the mobility sector.
However, the innovations carried out in MADRAS can be applied in a wide variety of sectors with higher potential of application. With the aim of identifying them and in order to design use cases, a workshop was held during the consortium meeting that took place in June 2022 in Barcelona.
The attendees discussed about different sectors of application, evaluating its innovative potential and designing the following use cases:
MADRAS flexible geolocation tag for medical test control
The Medical Tests Service of La Paz Hospital in Madrid serves an average of 3,000 to 3,500 patients a day. Doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, custodial staff, etc. take part of this process and there are specific protocols to control it. However, confusions, losses and even thefts happen every year.
There are current solutions available in the market based on RFID, which have limited read range (proximity) and position (passing reading). On the contrary, MADRAS flexible geolocation gag has a read range of 20 metres, able to read continuously and locate the tag inside a given zone (x, y, x coordinates).
MADRAS offers a low cost and thin flexible geolocation tag to effectively track the medical test. The flexibility of our tag allows to implement it in different types of devices, materials and sizes. Although flexible electronics are available in the market, MADRAS flexible geolocation tag is the only one combining UWB (Ultra Wideband) technology with energy harvesting for asset tracking and using flexible substrates.
MADRAS fingerprint reader photosensor for vehicles
Probably, more than once you’ve panicked when searching your pockets and not finding your car keys there. Virtual keys do not seem to be the solution either (as car keys it may having lost or stolen). The solution is at your fingerprints.
Some car manufacturers are experimenting with biometric technologies to unlock and start the vehicle, but there are no shapeintegrated flexible imaging devices currently in the market.
MADRAS proposes a flexible imaging device for biometrics, thermoformed in the desired piece able to adopt the shape (door handle, dashboard, etc.) to allow access-control and other functions such as to start the vehicle.
MADRAS solution provides improved security (2-step authentication) and customisation capabilities (setting options for different users, e.g. carsharing or rental car markets).
The team also worked in business benefits and potential clients of these use cases, as well asin other two use cases in the sectors of food retail and energy, but you will have to wait until the public release of D5.6 Market replication activities in March 2023 to learn more about the incredible potential of MADRAS solutions!
